All four CB15 series blades share the same 1.5mm diameter and red-tip blade holders. Match the blade to the media for clean cuts and maximum blade life:

Graphtec colour-codes blade holders by diameter. A blue or black tip holder = 0.9mm blades (CB09 series — the standard holder shipped with most FC and CE machines). A red tip holder = 1.5mm blades (CB15 series, including CB15U). If you are stepping up from standard vinyl cutting to thicker or laminated media, you need to change to the PHP33-CB15N-HS or PHP35-CB15-HS red-tip holder before installing CB15U blades. Installing a 1.5mm blade in a 0.9mm holder will not seat correctly and risks holder damage.

What is the difference between CB15U and CB15UA?
Both are 45° / 1.5mm Super-Steel blades for rigid media 0.25–0.5mm thick. The difference is steel formulation: CB15U is the standard alloy for general rigid media including laminates and thick vinyl. CB15UA uses a harder alloy specifically engineered for high-intensity reflective film, whose metalized retroreflective layers are more abrasive and dull standard blades faster. If your primary application is general laminate and thick vinyl cutting, CB15U is correct. If you regularly cut reflective sheeting, CB15UA will last significantly longer.

Which blade holder does the CB15U use?
The CB15U requires a 1.5mm red-tip blade holder — either PHP33-CB15N-HS (standard plastic tip) or PHP35-CB15-HS (brass tip, more rigid for precision cuts). It is not compatible with the 0.9mm blue/black holders shipped with most Graphtec FC and CE machines. If your current holder has a blue or black tip, you need the correct red-tip 1.5mm holder before installing CB15U blades.

Do I need to remove the spring for the PHP35-CB15-HS brass tip holder?
Yes. When using the PHP35-CB15-HS brass tip holder, remove the blade spring before installation. The brass tip holder design is incompatible with the spring — installing the blade with the spring in the PHP35 causes incorrect blade protrusion. The PHP33-CB15N-HS plastic tip holder uses the standard spring configuration and does not require spring removal.

When should I use CB15U-K30 instead of CB15U?
Use the CB15U-K30 (60° blade, sold separately) when cutting media thicker than 0.5mm — including sandblast rubber resist and rigid materials up to 1.5mm.
