Frequently Asked Questions
What does a damper do, and how do I know mine is failing?
A damper sits between your ink supply (cartridge or bulk tank) and the printhead. Its job is to regulate ink flow — it absorbs pressure fluctuations and delivers a controlled supply to each nozzle channel. When a damper fails, the symptoms look exactly like a clogged printhead: missing nozzles, color drift, or one channel printing weak. The most common case is white ink on a DTF setup — the white channel damper restricts flow and the head looks "clogged" when it's actually starved. Each channel has its own damper (CMYK + white = 5 dampers on a typical DTF). Read the full damper / capping / wiper guide.
Which damper do I need for my printer?
Match the damper to your printhead generation and ink type. Epson i3200 / i1600 / XP600 / 5113 — most DTF and water-based machines use the same damper family. Epson i3200/i1600 UV — UV-specific damper for solid UV ink chemistry. Roland VS-640 (1000012719) for Roland VS-series eco-solvent. Roland SJ-1000 (6085393800) for older SJ-series. Mimaki M006579 for JV33/JV5, M007846 / M027904 for JV34, M022253 for CJV300, M011417 for UJF-3042. Mutoh VJ-1614 (DG-41543). Seiko SPT-510. Generic DX4, DX5, DX7 small/large dampers fit older Roland/Mimaki/Mutoh machines with those Epson heads.
How often should I replace my dampers?
Inspect dampers monthly, replace at the first sign of restricted flow or color drift. On DTF setups with white ink, the white channel damper typically wears 2–3× faster than the color channels because of titanium dioxide settling — plan to replace white-channel dampers every 3–6 months in heavy production. CMYK dampers typically last 6–12 months. At $6–$10 per damper for the most common Epson DTF heads, preventive replacement is far cheaper than the printhead damage that follows damper failure.
Are these dampers genuine OEM or compatible?
Both — and we label which is which. OEM dampers (Roland, Mimaki, Mutoh) carry the original manufacturer's vendor tag on the product page. Compatible dampers (typically labeled "Generic/Chinese Printer Parts" or "digiprint-usa.com") are quality-tested aftermarket parts that perform identically at a fraction of the OEM price. Where both exist for the same printer (e.g. Roland VS-640 1000012719 — $10 compatible vs $85 OEM, or Mutoh VJ-1614 DG-41543 — $10 compatible vs $89 OEM), pick OEM if you're under printer-OEM warranty or running production-critical workflows; pick compatible for cost-effective routine replacement.
How fast does Digiprint USA ship dampers?
Orders placed before 2:00 PM EST on business days ship the same day from Doral, Florida. US orders typically arrive in 1–3 business days via FedEx or UPS. What is the return policy on dampers?
