Which Xaar printhead do I need?

Match the head to your application. Xaar 128/80 (XP12800005, blue tag) — 200dpi, 80pl, oil/solvent/sublimation, for coding & marking and wide-format. Xaar 128/80W (XP12800006, purple tag) — same specs but for water-based inks. Xaar 128/40W (XP12800009, light grey tag) — 360dpi, 40pl, finer detail; replaces discontinued Xaar 126/35 and 126/50. Xaar Irix Core 80L (XP12800071) and Irix Core 40W (XP12800072) are the current successors to the 128 series. Xaar 1003 GS-6U / GS-12U / GS-12C — 1000-nozzle industrial heads at 720dpi with High Laydown Technology; GS-6U and GS-12U are UV/solvent, GS-12C is the ceramic variant (XP10100157).

What do the tag colors on Xaar 128 printheads mean?

Xaar uses tag colors to differentiate variants of the 128 series — and they are NOT interchangeable. Blue tag = 128/80 (XP12800005), 200dpi, 80pl, oil/solvent/sublimation. Purple tag = 128/80W (XP12800006), 200dpi, 80pl, water-based. Light grey tag = 128/40W (XP12800009), 360dpi, 40pl, oil/solvent/sublimation. Installing the wrong variant means incompatible ink chemistry or wrong resolution output. Always match the tag color to your printer's specification before ordering — or contact us with your printer model.

What's the difference between Xaar 1003 GS-6U, GS-12U and GS-12C?

All three are 1000-nozzle, 720dpi industrial inkjet heads with Xaar's High Laydown Technology. The differences are application and ink chemistry. GS-6U is the 6pl variant for UV and solvent inks — finest detail. GS-12U is the 12pl UV variant — higher productivity, thicker laydown. GS-12C (XP10100157) is the dedicated ceramic tile variant built on the same chassis but engineered for the demanding ceramic ink chemistry used in tile decoration lines. The GS-12C is the successor to the legacy Xaar 1001 and 1002 ceramic heads.

Is the Irix Core a direct replacement for older Xaar 128 heads?

Yes. Xaar's Irix Core 80L (XP12800071) is the current production successor to the Xaar 128/80, and the Irix Core 40W (XP12800072) succeeds the 128/40W (XP12800009). Both Irix Core variants are drop-in replacements with identical printer compatibility and no firmware changes required. If you can't find your original part number, contact us — the Irix Core equivalent will fit.

Sealed, unused printheads are eligible for store credit only, not a refund to the original payment method.
