Frequently Asked Questions
Which Kyocera printhead do I need — KJ4A or KJ4B?
Choose by ink type and application. KJ4A series is for UV inks — KJ4A-AA (3pl) and KJ4A-TA (6pl) for high-viscosity UV in label/packaging and sign graphics, KJ4A-RH (5pl) for high-speed single-pass UV, and KJ4A-0300 (4–14pl) for combined UV + aqueous single-pass at up to 158 m/min. KJ4B series is for water-based inks — KJ4B-0300 (5pl) and KJ4B-QA (5–18pl variable) are the workhorse heads for direct-to-textile production (Xerox Rialto, Atexco Vega, MS Italy, EFI Reggiani, Printerevolution, FabriVu, Hanway). All KJ4 heads share the same physical footprint: 2,656 nozzles, 108.25mm swathe, 600dpi, 0.042mm pitch.
Standard vs MS / EFI Reggiani — which KJ4B variant do I order?
This is the most common Kyocera ordering mistake. The KJ4B-0300 and KJ4B-QA each ship in three hardware variants that are not interchangeable: (1) Standard — for Xerox Rialto, Atexco Vega, Printerevolution, FabriVu, Hanway and other compatible systems; (2) MS variant — includes the head cable specific to MS Italy machines (JP6, JP4EVO); (3) EFI Reggiani variant — includes the head cable specific to EFI Reggiani machines (BLAZE). The print engine is the same; the cable and firmware handshake differ. Always contact us with your printer make and model before ordering — we'll confirm the correct variant.
What is the drop volume / frequency tradeoff on KJ4B-QA?
The KJ4B-QA supports four variable drop volumes: 5pl, 7pl, 12pl and 18pl. The three smaller sizes (5, 7, 12pl) are available at the full 30 kHz drive frequency, supporting maximum print speeds up to 75 m/min. The 18pl drop is limited to a maximum of 20 kHz drive frequency — a physical constraint of the piezo actuation at that drop volume. For most textile applications, 5–7pl is used for fine detail and 12–18pl for high-coverage flood fill at reduced frequency.
What do the internal filter and reservoir heater do?
These two features distinguish Kyocera from lower-grade industrial printheads. The internal filters intercept particulate matter and pigment agglomerates before they reach the nozzle plate — critical for water-based textile inks where pigment particles can clog nozzles. The reservoir heater and thermistor stabilize ink temperature inside the head regardless of room conditions, keeping viscosity within the firing window. Together they're why Kyocera heads can run at 30,000 drops per second per head without dropout.
Are these Kyocera printheads genuine?
Yes. All Kyocera printheads sold by Digiprint USA are 100% genuine, Japanese-made Kyocera originals — never used, refurbished, or altered. Each ships with manufacturer warranty.
What is the warranty and return policy on Kyocera printheads?
Kyocera industrial printheads are high-precision components. All sales are final once the head is installed — they cannot be returned, exchanged, or refunded after installation. Sealed, unused printheads are eligible for store credit only, not a refund to the original payment method. Warranty coverage requires use of approved inks; non-approved inks or tampered/missing serial numbers void coverage. Inspect your delivery on arrival; hidden defects must be reported within 48 hours.
