Frequently Asked Questions
Which printhead does my Mutoh printer use?
Mutoh uses Epson-based printheads inside Mutoh-specific assemblies. DF-49684 fits ValueJet 1204, 1304/1304W, 1604/1604W/1604X, 1614, RJ-900C/X, RJ-901C/M/X (Drafstation), A-Tex Ultrajet S1500E/S1625E, and Xerox 7142 — solvent ink with 24-digit head ID. DF-49029 is the water-based equivalent with a 40-digit head ID for the same ValueJet platform. DG-43988 fits ValueJet 1324, 1624, 1624W, 1626UH, 1628X, 1638X, 426UF, 628, 628W, 1617H, 1948WX (also replaces older parts DG-42271, DG-43345, DG-45279, DG-42987). Each product page lists exact compatibility.
Solvent vs water-based Mutoh printhead — what's the difference?
Mutoh ships two variants of the same physical head, differentiated by head ID. The 24-digit head ID (DF-49684) is for solvent and mild-solvent inks. The 40-digit head ID (DF-49029) is for water-based inks. They are NOT interchangeable — installing a solvent head in a water-based machine (or vice versa) causes immediate ink chemistry incompatibility and image quality failure. Check your printer's service documentation or the existing head's ID before ordering.
Should I replace the head cables when I install a new Mutoh printhead?
Yes — we strongly recommend replacing the head data cables when installing a new Mutoh printhead. Used cables develop micro-cracks and signal degradation that can cause nozzle dropouts and misfires on the new head, leading buyers to think the new printhead is defective. Replacing cables at the same time eliminates that variable and protects your printhead investment.
Are these Mutoh printheads genuine?
Yes. All Mutoh printheads sold by Digiprint USA are genuine Mutoh, factory-sealed and never used, refurbished, or altered. Each ships in its sealed original Mutoh package with its head ID and is covered by a manufacturer warranty.
How long should a Mutoh printhead last?
Mutoh printheads typically last 12–24 months in production environments. Lifespan depends on ink type, daily maintenance, and how well the capping station and wiper assembly are kept clean. Eco-solvent inks generally allow longer head life than mild-solvent. Running daily nozzle checks, using approved Mutoh inks, and replacing the maintenance assembly (DG-41000, DG-40356) on schedule are the biggest factors.
What is the warranty and return policy on Mutoh printheads?
All Mutoh printheads are covered under warranty, with a specific RMA process — we'll guide you through it. Warranty requires use of approved inks; non-approved inks or tampered/missing serial numbers void coverage. Printheads cannot be returned once installed or used. Sealed, unused printheads are eligible for store credit only, not a refund to the original payment method. Inspect your delivery on arrival; hidden defects must be reported within 48 hours.
