The Ricoh GEN6 is the latest generation of Ricoh industrial piezoelectric printhead. It delivers higher firing frequency and enhanced greyscale capability versus GEN5, used in current-generation UV flatbed and industrial inkjet printers.

GEN6 vs GEN5 — what changed

• Firing frequency: GEN6 operates at higher frequency (40+ kHz) vs GEN5 (30 kHz) — meaningful throughput improvement in high-speed production
• Greyscale: Enhanced variable drop size for smoother gradients and finer detail in UV applications
• Nozzle count: 1,280 total — same as GEN5
• Interchangeable with GEN5? No — different control board interface. A GEN5 printer requires GEN5.

Variant selection

As with GEN5, the GEN6 is available in UV and solvent variants. Confirm your printer's ink chemistry before ordering. Running the wrong variant destroys the head rapidly.

Expected lifespan

12–24 months in UV flatbed and industrial applications — similar to GEN5 due to comparable duty cycles. Lifespan highly dependent on ink system quality and maintenance.
