Product Information

The Roland Assy Ink Damper L 3FAI 4 (part number 6085393800) is the genuine original Roland replacement ink damper for the DX4-based Roland SJ, SP, VP, RS, XC, XJ, FP, LEC, LEF, and LEJ printer series. This is the current-generation damper, replacing earlier part numbers 6085393700 and 7853903500 with an improved O-ring geometry that increases adhesion at the damper-to-printhead junction for a more reliable ink seal and smoother ink flow. Every 6085393800 we stock at Digiprint USA is 100% genuine original Roland — not aftermarket, not compatible.

UV printer users: part 1000006315 is additionally required. When installing this damper in a Roland LEC, LEF, or other UV-capable printer, Roland requires an additional cover part (1000006315) to be fitted over the damper to protect it from UV ink exposure. If you are servicing a UV printer in this family, confirm you also have part 1000006315 before installation. Contact us to order both parts together.

DX4 vs DX6 Platform — Choosing the Right Roland Damper

Platform Damper Part Roland Printers
DX4 — this listing 6085393800 SJ/SP/VP/XC/XJ/RS/FP/LEC/LEF/LEJ series
DX6 1000012719 VS/RE/RA/RF/XF/BN/RT/EJ/FH series

What Does "L 3FAI 4" Mean?

The Roland assembly designation "Assy, Ink Damper L 3FAI 4" encodes the damper's configuration. "L" indicates this is the Left assembly in Roland's damper layout. "3FAI" is Roland's internal damper family code for this series. "4" indicates the 4-channel configuration — one damper per ink channel, with the DX4 platform using 4 ink channels (CMYK). Together, the designation identifies this as the current-generation 4-channel Left assembly damper for the SJ/SP/VP/XC/XJ/RS platform. If your service documentation references "3FAI 4" anywhere in the damper description, this is the correct part.

The O-Ring Improvement — Why 6085393800 Replaced 6085393700

The 6085393800 introduces an improved O-ring geometry at the damper-to-printhead junction compared to its predecessors (6085393700 and 7853903500). The O-ring is the critical sealing element between the damper's ink outlet and the printhead manifold inlet — if it fails to form a complete seal, air enters the ink path, causing air bubbles in the nozzle channels that manifest as nozzle drop-out and banding. The revised O-ring shape in the 6085393800 increases contact area and adhesion at this junction, reducing the frequency of air ingestion failures that affected the earlier generations under high carriage movement stress. When replacing dampers on any compatible Roland DX4 printer, always use the current 6085393800 — the improved O-ring is a meaningful engineering change, not a cosmetic revision.

Signs Your SJ-1000 Dampers Need Replacing

• Banding or nozzle row loss on specific colour channels — ink starvation from a restricted or failing damper

• Air bubbles visible in the damper body or ink tubes — O-ring or membrane failure allowing air ingestion

• Ink leaking at the damper-printhead junction — O-ring seal failure

• Nozzle drop-out that returns rapidly after cleaning cycles — continuous air ingestion through a compromised damper

• Inconsistent ink delivery across a long print run — progressive damper membrane fatigue

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "L 3FAI 4" mean in the part name?
L = Left assembly; 3FAI = Roland's internal damper family code for this series; 4 = 4-channel configuration (one damper per ink channel on the DX4 platform's CMYK setup). If your service documentation refers to "Assy Ink Damper L 3FAI 4" or "3FAI 4", this is the correct part. The full Roland designation is "Assy, Ink Damper L 3FAI 4, SJ-1000."

Why does the 6085393800 have an improved O-ring compared to 6085393700?
The earlier 6085393700 (and 7853903500 before it) used an O-ring geometry that could lose adhesion at the damper-to-printhead junction under the stress of high-speed carriage movement, allowing air ingestion into the ink path. The 6085393800 redesigned the O-ring shape to increase contact area and adhesion, reducing air ingestion failures. When servicing DX4-based Roland printers, always specify 6085393800 — the O-ring improvement is a meaningful engineering change.

Why do LEC and LEF UV printers need the additional part 1000006315?
The LEC and LEF series are UV-curable ink printers. UV inks contain photoinitiators and reactive monomers that can attack standard damper components if exposed. The 1000006315 is a protective cover that shields the damper body from direct UV ink exposure, extending damper service life in UV applications. Without it, UV ink contact degrades the damper housing prematurely. If you are servicing an LEC, LEF, or LEJ model, order both 6085393800 and 1000006315 before the installation.

Do you ship Roland SJ-1000 dampers to Latin America?
Yes — same day shipping from our Doral, Miami FL warehouse. Ideal for Latin American Roland SJ/SP/VP/XC/LEC/LEF service operations and eco-solvent print shops using freight forwarders in the Doral area.
