A Graphtec cutting strip is a narrow teflon-coated adhesive strip, approximately 5mm wide, that runs along the cutting channel of the machine. It protects the platen from blade over-penetration and ensures clean, consistent cuts. When the strip shows visible grooves or cuts wear through, it must be replaced. Replacement strips are matched to your machine model and width (100cm, 130cm, or 160cm).

📢 FC8600 Discontinued: Graphtec has officially discontinued the FC8600 series. Replacement parts — including cutting strips — are still available from DigiPrint USA while stock lasts. If you own an FC8600, stocking spare cutting strips now is recommended to avoid production downtime.

Cutting Strip Part Numbers by Machine & Width

Graphtec cutting strips for the FC7000, FC8000, and FC8600 share the same part numbers by machine width. Order by your model's cutting width (the number after the dash in the model name — e.g., FC8600-160 = 160cm).

FC9000 Cutting Mats — A Different System

The FC9000 does not use a teflon cutting strip. Instead, it uses a self-healing cutting mat (PM-CR series) covering the full cutting surface. These are sold in 2-packs and are matched to machine width:

Part Number Fits Model Pack
PM-CR-005 FC9000-75 2 mats/pack
PM-CR-006 FC9000-100 2 mats/pack
PM-CR-007 FC9000-140 2 mats/pack

How to Replace a Graphtec Cutting Strip

  1. Power off and lower the pinch rollers. Turn off the cutter. Lower the pinch rollers and move the carriage to one side to clear access to the cutting strip groove along the platen.
  2. Remove the old strip. Starting at one end, peel the teflon strip away from the groove slowly at a low angle. If it tears, use a plastic scraper to remove the remaining section. Clean all adhesive residue with isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry completely.
  3. Align and press the new strip. Position the new strip into the groove with the adhesive side down. Start from one end and press firmly along the full length. The strip is approximately 5mm wide — it should sit flush in the groove with no raised edges.
  4. Allow 30 minutes to cure. Let the adhesive set before running media. Then run several test cuts on scrap material to verify blade depth and confirm clean cuts.

Signs Your Cutting Strip Needs Replacing

  • Visible grooves, channels, or cuts worn into the strip surface
  • Incomplete cuts even when blade depth is set correctly
  • Media dragging or catching on rough sections of the strip
  • Inconsistent cut quality across the width of the plotter
  • The strip has separated from the groove at one or both ends

Frequently Asked Questions

What cutting strip fits the Graphtec FC8600-160?

Part number 51407-141. This teflon cutting strip is shared across the FC7000-160, FC8000-160, and FC8600-160 models. Order 51407-141 from DigiPrint USA →

Is the FC8600 cutting strip the same as the FC8000?

Yes. The teflon cutting strips for the FC7000, FC8000, and FC8600 share identical part numbers for each width: 51407-141 (160cm), 51407-142 (130cm), and 51407-143 (100cm).

What is the difference between a cutting strip and a cutting mat?

A cutting strip is a narrow (~5mm) teflon adhesive strip running along the cutting channel — used on FC8600, FC8000, and FC7000 series. A cutting mat is a wide self-healing surface mat — used on the FC9000 (PM-CR series) and CE-series desktop cutters. They are not interchangeable.

How long does a Graphtec cutting strip last?

Typically 6–18 months depending on daily cutting volume and blade depth settings. High-production environments may need replacement every few months. The strip can be inspected visually — deep grooves or separation are the most obvious signs.
