What Does the GH2220 Damper Do?

The GH2220 printhead requires a precisely controlled negative back-pressure at its ink inlet to maintain stable ink menisci at each nozzle opening. Without correct back-pressure — maintained by the damper's internal membrane — ink floods through the nozzles at rest (positive pressure) or air is drawn into the nozzle channels (excessive negative pressure). Both conditions cause print quality failure. The damper also absorbs the rapid pressure fluctuations caused by carriage acceleration and deceleration during printing, preventing those spikes from reaching the printhead and causing droplet size variation and banding. A secondary function is particle filtration — the damper's internal screen traps particles before they can reach and score the GH2220's precision silicon nozzle plate.
