DTF vs DTG — Understanding the Difference

DTF (Direct to Film) printing transfers a design from a special PET film onto any fabric type — cotton, polyester, blends, and synthetics. Unlike DTG printing which prints directly onto the garment (cotton only, requires pre-treatment), DTF works on virtually any fabric without pre-treatment. This makes DTF ink the more versatile choice for print shops serving a wide range of garment types.

Frequently Asked Questions

What printheads is this DTF ink compatible with?
This ink is formulated for Epson-technology printheads used in Chinese DTF printers — primarily the Epson XP600 (F1080-A1) and Epson I3200-A1, as well as older DX5 and DX7 printhead installations. Contact our team to confirm compatibility with your specific DTF printer model.

What is the volume of each bottle?
Each bottle contains 1 litre (1000ml) of ink — CMYK and White are all sold as 1 litre bottles at equal pricing per colour. Select your required colour from the variant selector above.

Do I need White ink for DTF printing?
Yes — White ink is essential for DTF printing. In the DTF process, the design is printed in CMYK first onto the PET film, then White is printed on top as a base layer. After powder adhesive is applied and cured, the transfer is pressed onto the garment. Without White, the transfer will not adhere properly or appear vibrant on the fabric.

What fabrics can DTF transfers be applied to?
DTF transfers work on virtually any fabric — 100% cotton, 100% polyester, poly-cotton blends, nylon, denim, and synthetic fabrics. This makes DTF more versatile than DTG (which is best on cotton only) or sublimation (which requires polyester).

What is the shelf life of this DTF ink?
The shelf life is 1 year from the manufacture date when stored correctly — keep bottles sealed, away from direct sunlight, at room temperature. Shake the White ink bottle before use as pigment can settle over time.

Do you ship DTF inks to Latin America?
Yes — same day shipping from our Doral, Miami FL warehouse. Our Miami location is ideal for Latin American DTF print shops using freight forwarders in the Doral area.
